PSALM 24 Sermon #1 (For the Week of July 16th)
PSALM 24
A Psalm of David.
1 The earth is the LORD’s, and all its fullness,
The world and those who dwell therein.
2 For He has founded it upon the seas,
And established it upon the waters.
3 Who may ascend into the hill of the LORD?
Or who may stand in His holy place
4 He who has clean hands and a pure heart,
Who has not lifted up his soul to an idol,
Nor sworn deceitfully.
5 He shall receive blessing from the LORD,
And righteousness from the God of his salvation.
6 This is Jacob,
the generation of those who seek Him,
Who seek Your face.
Selah
7 Lift up your heads, O you gates!
And be lifted up, you everlasting doors!
And the King of glory shall come in.
8 Who is this King of glory?
The LORD strong and mighty,
The LORD mighty in battle.
9 Lift up your heads, O you gates!
Lift up, you everlasting doors!
And the King of glory shall come in.
10 Who is this King of glory?
The LORD of hosts, He is the King of glory.
Selah
Sermon:
How can one not notice the faith of David through the Psalms? As we walk day by day on our journey of faith, we encounter moments when we feel a desire that appears to originate from our very spirit to exhalt our King and our Lord above all other things in this world and praise Him in the best words we can muster.
We attempt to give thanks and recognition to His Ultimate Power, Wisdom, and Grace and give Him a moment of praise for the miracles we see in our lives. These moments can be very special and deeply personal for us, and these times of praise help establish a relationship with Our Lord. When we read the Psalms of David, we see how our words fail to come close to the simple and pure words that David uses in psalm after psalm after psalm .
Pslam 24 offers us an opportunity to reflect on several topics.
Let's focus on one topic, the topic is:
"When YOU come to Church"
Reflect on what this Psalm says:
"The Earth is the Lords" ...and the Lord is Jesus Christ.
"and everything in it"...Jesus is the Creator.
"and everyone in it"...Jesus is the purchaser of the world.
Jesus PAID THE PRICE to redeem all!
"When you come to church..."
Question: But what is the Church?
The answer is:
The ongoing generations of men and women who seek the Lord (Jesus).
These people are the Church.
Now, who may stand in this Holy Place, the Church?
The answer:
Those who have clean hands and a pure heart.
ALL have sinned,
so who are these people with clean hands and a pure heart?
They are those who receive vindication from God THROUGH THE SAVIOUR!
Who is this Saviour?
JESUS CHRIST
Jesus Christ suffered and died in the place of sinners, thus satisfying the Father's just wrath against human sin, and effecting true reconciliation between God and mankind for those who believe in Him (the Saviour).
If you are to come to Church, HIS church, you come through the Saviour...
through the righteousness of the Saviour, Jesus Christ, you may stand in
this Most Holy Place with clean hands and a pure heart!
God Bless you and give praise onto the Lord!
